3 C’s to Blogging Successfully for Beginners

Many a time, I’ve received emails and DM’s from aspiring bloggers with copious questions on how to start and grow their blog and social media platforms. Today, I’ll break down the secrets to getting started with blogging. As an aspiring blogger, seeing others who are already established and jet-sailing seems like a no-brainer. It seems easy and you presume the words will just flow to you. Until you actually sit down in front of a computer and immediately grow intimidated by your keyboard and a blank screen.

Relax. It’s not at all a big deal. First and foremost, before you get started, you have to ask yourself what do you want to focus on. You can focus on makeup, hair, finance, fashion, photography – the list goes on! But you have to choose ONE. “But I want my blog to be about all my favorite interests; how can I blog about everything”, you ask? You can, but you have to initially choose one topic first. You have to give your readers a reason to seek you out. YOU have to be an expert on whatever topic you choose to focus on. With one broad topic at hand, it makes users easier to find you and continue to come back to your page because you have information that they are generally looking for. When you’re all over the place with more than one topic in mind, you tend to attract fewer viewers because you’re not being seen as “the expert”. You lose their attention and they then begin to go elsewhere searching for the expert they were searching for.

Now that you’ve narrowed down your main focus for your blog, here’s how to get yourself started. One major concern I get from new bloggers is “I don’t know where to start”. My answer is always this: JUST START! It doesn’t matter what you write about so long as there is a clear message pertaining to the point of your blog. If you love fashion and want to blog about it, start blogging about your favorite trends for the season. If you’re a hair blogger, talk about the do’s and don’ts to achieve healthy hair while looking fabulous. If you’re a photographer, talk about great beginner cameras for up and coming photographers or your experience as you got into the game! From there, build upon the momentum. A huge myth bloggers often combat with is that we blog every single day. If you can do that, more power to you! But the best practice I’ve found that works for me is to set aside a block of time a few hours one day to blog that you plan to post for the entire week. Sunday’s are my favorite day. Sunday afternoons, I set aside time for a few hours and I blog about 3-4 different topics that I plan to post throughout the week. Once I’ve finished blogging, I schedule one post a day to be published. The hard work is now out of the way!

It’s now up to you to keep up the momentum. Don’t quit! I repeat for my people in the back. DO. NOT. QUIT. Consistency is key. Even I have fallen victim to dropping the ball and you lose a lot of momentum this way. You want to give your readers a reason to return and you want them to bring others along for the ride too. Once you begin to slack off, it’s harder to get them to return thus costing you views, which affects future brand partnerships, which affects your money and your brand. Stay focused and stay consistent no matter what. It’s not as hard as you think it is. Just stay disciplined to blogging for a few hours on a designated day once a week and you’ll be well on your way. My suggested amount of blog posts for beginners is 2 posts a week. If you can create and post two consistent blog posts a week, you’ll be set for success. For those who are beyond the beginner stage, I suggest 3-5 posts a week. Plan out what you anticipate sharing with your viewers for the month and then each week on your designated day, write about those specific posts. It’s a good way not to scramble for the words and guarantee your viewers well prepared and interesting content they deserve. This is how you create content consistently and those are your 3 C’s to successfully blog. Happy blogging!
